Fuzzy System Design Overview

The topics in this section use an example fuzzy system that automates a vehicle to park itself to illustrate the basics of fuzzy system design.

NoteThe topics in this section describe the general process of designing a fuzzy system. You also can refer to the tutorials Using the Fuzzy System Designer and Modifying a Fuzzy System with the Fuzzy Logic VIs for examples with step-by-step instructions of how to design a fuzzy system with the PID and Fuzzy Logic VIs.

A fuzzy system consists of three main parts: linguistic variables, membership functions, and rules. Therefore, fuzzy system design is a three-step process:

  1. Creating Linguistic Variables
  2. Creating Membership Functions
  3. Creating a Rule Base
