Adding Comments to the Revision History

Complete the following steps to add a comment to the History window.

1. Select Edit»VI Revision History to display the History window.
2. Enter a description of the changes you made to the VI in the Comment text box near the top of the window.
3. Click the Add button to manually add the comment to the history for the VI. If the Comment text box contains a comment when you save the VI, LabVIEW automatically adds the comments to the history. The header of the comment includes the next revision number.
   
   After you add a comment, it is a permanent part of the history. You cannot edit comments in the VI history.

Leave the History window open while you edit a VI so you can enter information in the Comment text box every time you make a change. To include an entry in the revision history each time you save the VI, even if you do not enter a comment, select History in the History window and make sure there is a checkmark next to Show Empty Entries.

Note  By default, LabVIEW does not create history comments automatically. Anyone who makes changes to the VI must enter a description of the changes in the History window to keep the history up to date. You can configure LabVIEW to record comments generated by LabVIEW in the history for the current VI by placing a checkmark in the Record comments generated by LabVIEW checkbox on the Revision History page of the VI Properties dialog box. You also can configure LabVIEW to record comments generated by LabVIEW in the history for all new VIs by placing a checkmark in the Record comments generated by LabVIEW checkbox on the Revision History page of the Options dialog box.
